The Food and Drug Administration cautions consumers not to ingest too much caffeine, noting that high levels of caffeine can cause serious health issues.
Heavy Caffeine Consumption can Cause Unwanted Side Effects
Even among adults, heavy caffeine consumption can cause unpleasant side effects like headache, insomnia, nervousness, fast heartbeat, and muscle tremors.
Caffeine can interfere with normal sleep patterns. Small amounts of sleep loss can disturb daytime performance and alertness issues.
Women who are pregnant or trying to become pregnant should consult with their doctor about caffeine consumption. Most physicians will have pregnant women cut back to 200 mg per day about two cups.
Consume Caffeine in Moderation
If you are like most adults, caffeine is part of your daily routine in one form or another. But be mindful of possible side effects, especially if you are on any medications or have heavy daily consumption.
